CPS Energy

In 2008, NAFCO contracted for the design, supply, electrical design, detailing, fabrication, and installation of the entire material-handling system for CPS Energy at the Calaveras Lake Generating Station near San Antonio, Texas. This system allows CPS to receive shipments of coal and transport it to the power plant. The project included the construction of a 1,500- foot rotary-plow tunnel and 72” conveyor with a capacity of 3,000 tons per hour, as well as mechanical piping systems. Also included in the project was a 300-foot 72” conveyor with a fixed tripper, which has a 3,000-tons-per-hour capacity, plus the installation of 94 “Tee-Pee” coal diverters with 188 top-of-wall diaphragms and the retrofitting of the existing transfer tower.

NAFCO completed installation of this contract, which contained more than 5.2 million pounds of fabricated steel, in 2010.
